Kenneth Gordon Felix Saxby (Ken) was born on 6 July 1924 in Malling, Kent. He attended Burham Village Council School, where in 1938 he was awarded prizes for general knowledge and athletics.
At the outbreak of war he was working as a machine attendant in a paper sack factory, alongside his twin Bertie. He still lived at home.
He joined the Navy's Fleet Air Arm as an Air Mechanic II Class in 1943, aboard HMS Gosling. However, shortly after enlisting he was taken ill. He succumbed to tuberculosis on 11 November 1943, aged just 19 years old.
A full naval funeral was held, and the Last Post was sounded. His parents and siblings were in attendance, and friends from home, workmates and neighbours sent floral tributes.
He is now buried in Plot C, Collective Grave 2, in Southport (Duke Street) Cemetery. He is commemorated on the cemetery's screen wall.
