John Mitchell Butchart was born 1895 in Dundee and lost his life in 1942 (aged 47).
He was a corporal in the RAF, service number 406119.
He married Lillian Margaret Wadd in Rutland in 1929, then had their son Raymond Hugh Butchart in 1932. John's father was William Anderson Butchart (1869-1935) and mother was Grace White Dewar.
John had already served in WW1 but signed up again to fight in WW2.
201 squadron was based in Lough Erne in Co Fermanaugh in Northern Ireland. It was here while out on the lough in a marine dinghy that there was a tragic accident, it capsized losing all hands.
His death is registered in Chichester as that was the protocol for servicemen who died in Northern Ireland at the time.
