Family Life pre-war

Corporal William Reginald Stapleton was a builder before the war and lived in South Luffenham in Rutland along with his wife, Margaret Helen Stapleton (nee Hart) and their daughter Phyllis M Stapleton. He was the son of a stone mason, John William Stapleton and Elizabeth Stapleton (nee Bentham). William and Margaret married in 1935 and their daughter was born in 1937.

Military Service

William was enlisted as part of the Royal Armoured Corps, service number 7935854 as part of the 60th Training Regiment based at Tidworth in Wiltshire. Records show he died of wounds in the MIlitary Hospital, but I can find no further details, sadly.  Ordering his death certificate from the GRO would help with some information for any interested family members. Additionally his Service Record, WO 423/872678, is held by The National Archives at Kew, but is currently closed until 1 January 2027.
