Frederick was born in Willesborough, Ashford the youngest of eight children, to Edwin and Margaret Aspin on 28th. April 1892, where his father was a foreman ironworker in the railway repair works. The family then moved to New Romney where Edwin became the publican at the New Inn. Having left school, Frederick became a motor engineer.
Frederick's military career began in 1915 when, on the 22nd February, he enlisted in the Royal Navy at HMS President II, the shore station on the Embankment in London. He was rated as a mechanic as a result of his civilian career.
He served at the Royal Naval Air Stations of Detling, Eastchurch and Manston, working for part of the time on airships. By 1918 he had been promoted Petty Officer Mechanic and in July that year married Minnie Warder.
After the Armistice the couple returned to new Romney where Frederick worked at Carey's Garage in New Street. They raised two children.
When the Second World War began Frederick was re-called for service as a fitter at RAF Colerne. By this time he was suffering from diabetes and his health steadily deteriorated. In April 1944 Flight Sergeant Frederick Aspin was admitted to hospital in Melksham where he died.
