Arnhem - Operation Market Garden
Operation Market Garden was an ambitious plan for airborne forces to capture strategic river crossings allowing the Allied XXX Corps to drive through the Netherlands and across the Rhine at Arnhem. Its aim was to shorten the war. What has now become known as 'A Bridge Too Far', the armoured advance had been held up and was unable to relieve the units at Arnhem in time. (Image: IWM K 7586)
