Commemorate

Private Emile Cortiel with para-dog Glen; Emile's tombstone in Ranville War Cemetery, Normandy, with various tributes laid at the base. You’ll be making sure we never forget the real stories of those affected by the World Wars.

"I feel it is really important to educate, inform and share as wide as possible the work of this organisation and I believe membership of the Foundation enhances those opportunities." – Stephen B

We will continue to commemorate their sacrifice by telling Every Story, For Evermore.

Stories like Private Emile Corteil's

Emile was just 19 when he parachuted into France in the early hours of June 6, 1944, D-Day, with the men of the 9th (Essex) Parachute Battalion. With him was Glen, his trusty para-dog, trained to sniff out enemy soldiers and defences.

Sadly, Emile and Glen both perished in the fighting to take the Merville Battery. Emile was just 19 years old. He and Glen are buried together in Ranville War Cemetery. Emile’s mother chose the words for his headstone: ‘Had you known our boy you would have loved him too. “Glen” his paratroop dog was killed with him’.

You can join as a Member by completing our online form

Unfortunately, we cannot accept payments over the phone at this time.

Please do contact a member of our team if you are having trouble signing up through our website.

You have to be over the age of 18 to become a CWGF Member. CWGF Membership is not geography restricted. You can join anywhere in the world.

The upkeep of the CWGC cemeteries and memorials is funded by Commonwealth War Graves' Member Governments and not by CWGF Membership. By joining the CWGF as a Member means that you are supporting our education and outreach projects to allow us to remember the stories of those cared for in these sites.

If you have set up a direct debit, then there is no need to take any action to renew your Membership. One of our team will be in touch with you if we need to.

If you are paying via a one-off payment, then we will send you several reminder emails around the time of your renewal. It is at this point that you can set up a direct debit if you wish. This will help reduce our administrative costs.

Gift Aid is an easy way to increase the value of your donation. If you are a UK taxpayer, the CWGF can claim 25p for every £1 you donate- at no extra cost to you.

Gift Aid can be claimed on your CWGF membership or personal donations.

Gift Aid cannot be claimed on donations on behalf of a group of people or organisation, from raffles or collections.

For more information, please visit: Gift Aid donation claims for charities and CASCs - GOV.UK.
