Commonwealth War Graves Foundation Wins Post Office Remembrance Fellowship Grant for Part-Time Education Officer

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation is delighted that, thanks to the sponsorship of a part-time Education Officer post by the Post Office Remembrance Fellowship (PORF), we can increase our focus on keeping remembrance alive, especially with young people.

The Foundation was founded to engage with people, especially the young, on the work of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and to share the stories of those we commemorate.

The new part-time Education  Officer role will help us with our core aim by proactively engaging with schools, universities, and youth groups by:

• Creating dedicated resources that highlight postal service personnel in the World Wars and other free digital resources ensuring information is easily accessible and free for all
• Introducing them to the CWGC’s cemeteries and memorials and locating suitable sites for schools and other group visits
• Developing enriching support materials for schools with useful insights and additional learning resources
• Adapting resources to support SEN students and groups and promoting learning outside the classroom with interactive, immersive and engaging activities

We are delighted to work with the Post Office Remembrance Fellowship on this important role. Previously, the PORF’s generosity was instrumental in the development of For Evermore: Stories of the Fallen – our digital stories archive.

Since launching in 2023, For Evermore has collated over 10,500 stories of Commonwealth servicemen and women commemorated by Commonwealth War Graves, including over 60 stories of fallen members of the 1st/8th Battalion, London Regiment (Post Office Rifles) who died in the Great War.
